The Problem
You came to Turkey for a procedure—perhaps a cosmetic surgery or a hair transplant. However, the results are disastrous, or you have suffered an infection due to poor hygiene. The clinic is now ignoring your messages, and you are terrified about the permanent damage to your body.
How the Law Works in Turkey
Turkish Law provides a strong path for "Medical Malpractice" (Tıbbi Uygulama Hatası) claims. Both doctors and private hospitals are legally liable for damages caused by negligence, lack of skill, or failure to inform the patient of risks. You have the right to sue for both "Material Damages" (medical costs and loss of income) and "Moral Damages" (pain and suffering).
What the Tourist Should Do
Do not immediately fly home if possible. Go to an independent state hospital or a reputable university hospital to get an "Epicrisis Report" documenting the botched procedure and the current state of your health. This is your most critical evidence. Take photos of the damage and save every receipt and message from the clinic.
The Risks
The biggest risk is waiting. Clinics often try to stall patients until they leave the country, knowing it is harder to sue from abroad. If you sign a "Release Form" or accept a small refund in exchange for not suing, you lose your legal right to claim much larger compensation in court.
